The line that confused her was "But I'm laying up my treasures." Treasures are the things that are most important to us. It is whatever you make time to do. I gave her some examples. I explained to her that it could also be collecting things or storing them up.
She wanted to know if having treasures was a bad thing. I went on to say it was okay to have things or spend some time on things. Treasures are bad when they take you away from your walk with God. If they keep you from church, if they keep you away from the Word or if they keep you away from the body of Christ then it has become something entirely different. That thing that became a treasure is not really valuable at all if it has taken you away from your walk with Christ.
"Laying up" our treasures means our mind, our happiness, and our hope is always looking up to God. Our energy should be focused in our eternal hope in Christ. I don't know about you, but around here we live from paycheck to paycheck. When we sing that song, I smile so big that my face hurts! At the end of the road there's a payday that goes on eternally! The hope and pure joy in that message blows my mind every time. I'm getting so happy just writing this to y'all that I may have to go in the other room and sing the song!
My most precious and unfailing joy is in knowing that I am a child of God. Sarah got it after it was all said and done. She grinned up at me and said, "So Mama, God is our one and only treasure, right?" I replied, "That's right, Baby that is right."
I love you guys. I hope that we are all on the same pay schedule. Be happy cause you're blessed!
