Hey Ya'll ! Welcome to my corner. I hope everyone had a great Fathers day.
Our family went to Myrtle beach, S.C. for Fathers day weekend. Getting everybody and everything ready was a "trip" in and of itself ! We departed at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday (originally planned to leave at 8 a.m.)
All of a sudden, I remembered that I had not called my mama. I went to get my cell phone out of my purse. It wasn't there. We were approaching the Seagrove exit, so I took it. I pulled into Hardees to look for the cell phone. I could'nt find it. Frustrated, I got back on 220 towards Asheboro.
No one spoke for the next 15 minutes. First time in a long time!
I pulled into the driveway, opened the front door and looked on the counter. I saw the plugged-in charger, but no phone.
THEN, I had the bright idea to use my home phone to call my cell phone.
I gleefully heard my ringtone song "I Can Only Imagine"
My son Tyler was sitting on my phone. It was also on vibrate so he started laughing and clapping his hands. Tim looks at me and says "Ya know, there was a pay phone back there." I think the look that I shot him also may have been accompanied by imaginary daggers.
Again there was silence. Except for Tyler, because he was still sitting on the phone.
I got in the car and told everybody they could breathe. The storm was over. We headed back on the road. It is now 11:00. I called my mama on the cell phone. She answered "thought you were gonna leave at 8:00 this morning?" I didn't respond initially.
My mind went back to my mama trying to get four kids out the door! I quickly surmised that she was entitled to any comment she wanted to make. We never had to use the cell phone for the rest of the way down or on the way home. I was just determined to have it with me for a safety net.
We spent the weekend at the pool. On Fathers day, we went to the ocean. The kids sat in the sand, letting the waves crash on them. The current would move them with each wave.
Sarah kept asking the same questions. "How does the wave move me?" Why is it so strong?"
We tried to explain about the current and the tide. She lost interest in our explanation. We had to move both of them back from time to time. They were so intent on watching the waves, that they didn't notice how quickly the current was pulling them in.
The waves were beautiful and quiet right before they crash in. They can roll in serenely, small and appear uneventful. Then the event of the crash is the pull of the current.
It made me think.
All of us are pulled in different directions everyday. We get in a hurry. We quickly prioritize events. We grab our cell phones, we make sure our computer has security firewalls, we check the air in the tires before a trip.
Then, when the day is done, and we pause to reflect on the events - it happens. There were no storms. We made it through another day! Thank you God!
WAIT. The safety net was over us the whole time. I got pulled in by the current. I didn't start my day with prayer. I opened up myself to walk through the day without God's grace. Yet, he still protected us.
Our trip was great. The weather was great. No storms.
Don't get caught in the beauty and the pull of this world. Start each day with the One who controls the waves and the tide.
He is your anchor from the current.
Have a great week !
